Taz Taylor Producer Grind Interview

Taz Taylor, the founder of Internet Money recently did a podcast on Producer Grind and shared some knowledge. Taz talks about how he went from hustling and selling beats online to signing 66 producers.

I have been a follower of Internet Money since the begining of my production journey. I used to heavily watch his vlogs back in Jacksonville, FL. He and the gang have been a huge inspiration!

The podcast sheds a light on how he got to where he is today. Taz discusses his childhood of growing up Florida, his Dad leaving when he was three, and his family becoming borderline homeless before their Aunt took them in. This is where music comes in. Taylor’s stepdad was a drummer and his uncle was a guitarist, and Taylor would go to their practices and play on the instruments while listening to them play.

“I can play any instrument by ear. I can match keys, and find the chords, that's how I learned to play every instrument.”

Taylor was stuck in 7th grade for 3 years until he decided to leave school and work on graphic design. He eventually discovered music and fell in love with making beats. He still leverages his graphic design skills to this day and discusses how he continues to design album covers and other projects for Internet Money. The image below is the album cover for ‘B4 the Storm’ designed by Taylor.

Taylor’s first beat was sampling Coldplay’s The Scientist, speeding it up, and adding basic trap drums. People told him to never make another beat, but he didn’t listen to them. He had found his love for music and was determined to work hard to achieve a career in the music industry. Even after he had a heart attack, he left the hospital and went back to the studio to work because music is his passion.

It’s a really great listen, I’d 100% recommend it. but to hear someone so determined and who has had a rough beginning come to be who he is today, with all his accomplishments.

Weekly Wisdom đŸ’Ą

Sync Placements - Why They’re Important & How You Can Use Them!

If you’ve never head of “sync licensing or placements” before, it’s an industry term for using music in visual media. It's a music license granted by the creator to be used by a third party to be synced with visuals A sync license allows someone to use your composition in a moving picture, such as a film, tv series, adverts, video game or other audio-visual productions.) A sync license is an agreement that must clearly outline placement, payment, and permissions.

I recently sat down with one of my producer friends who's huge in the EDM world to pick his brain about dj’ing. He's doing exactly what I want to do so I went to him for some advice.

He's worked with huge names such as Steve Aoki and toured the world.. But what he told me completely shocked me. 🤯

Despite having these huge songs with big artists with millions of streams, and the ability to travel and play shows across the globe... He actually made the majority of his money from sync placements from his songs.

One of the songs he made was used for a major worldwide event... From that sync alone, it generated $300k. 💰

Nobody is talking about this, even though there's a world of opportunity ready to be explored. With the rise of streaming services, TV shows and films there's an extraordinarily high demand for music in the media industry right now.

My guys over at Heate have been killing it in the sync world, and I think this is gonna be game-changing for the producer community. On March 11th at 2 pm, they'll be doing a free masterclass on how to get your music placed in TV shows. If you wanna learn how to get your music in TV shows and set up a passive income stream from your music, make sure you register using the button below. There are limited spots available.

I usually don't share these kinds of things but I truly believe this could be of value to you. To be honest, I'll probably be joining the masterclass myself. I've been working with the guys from Heate on Tsunami Audio and if I trust anyone to be able to help out with this, it's them.
