This Week in Producer News 📰

Metro Boomin's New Album Is Ground-Breaking... Once Again!

Metro Boomin has released his new album and it is insane. Metro flaunts his talents with attention to detail, and massive energy, by showing off his gift for creating music.

All 15 songs on the new LP 'Heroes & Villains' have debuted on the latest, December 17 Billboard Hot 100 chart, including two in the top 10, thats insane for a producer project.

Metro teamed up with rappers like Young Thug and Future, to give you an energetic album that tells a story. He has clearly thought outside of the box for this album by taking some risks with new sounds. Heroes & Villains achieves all it needs to with wicked end-of-song outros, brilliant sequencing, shocking beat switches, and flawless features. Once of my friends in fact, Elkan who you might have seen on the channel got a credit on the album, with Metro using one of his iconic samples "Dead or Alive".

Metro teased the new album with a trailer that showed a deranged criminal (played by LaKeith Stanfield) driving a flame-throwing fire truck through a burning city. Metro is watching it all unfold while Morgan Freeman talks him out of getting involved by saying "Your place in history is already cemented... you've built a legacy, something people will clearly kill for." Morgan Freeman makes a solid point. Metro has clearly made his mark in the music industry, and his new album speaks to that.

Metro has produced a crazy album and I highly recommend you check it out! Something fresh in hip hop for sure.

A New AI project, Riffusion, Creates Spectrograms to Produce Music

A new AI project called ‘Riffusion’ is creating spectrograms that produce sounds based on what style of music you ask it for by using AI technology.

AI is gaining popularity in multiple verticals, including music. We have seen it with Pilot Plugins’ futuristic AI avatars that can help you generate new MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and audio files, an AI cover of Dolly Parton’s Jolene, and now this. A track released earlier this year featuring vocals by an AI has even surpassed 100 million streams. Diffusion has found a way for this same technology to make music.

It works by building an indexed collection of spectrograms, each tagged with keywords that represent the style of music captured within the spectrogram. Once trained on this collection, Riffusion uses the same technology as Stable Diffusion, the image-generating AI, to generate music.

The project will generate a spectrogram image that has similar qualities to spectrograms that match a user’s text prompts. For example, if you were to ask it for “funky piano”, it will create a spectrogram similar to one that matches your prompt, and convert it to a funky piano-led track.

Riffusion is only at the beginning of its journey and we can expect AI technology to continue developing. I'd encourage you to test the platform yourself by using the Riffusion web app.
