Yoooooo! What's up fam!

Welcome back to The Muse-Letter. This week we are taking a look at international Latin artist, Rosalia receiving the Producer of the Year Award, and Internet Money taking on the Rhythm Roulette Challenge. Some good stuff this week, and I'm super excited to share these stories with you all.

I appreciate you having a read and being part of the Muse-Letter community. Without further ado, let's get into it.

This Week in Producer News 📰

Rosalía is set to receive this year’s Producer of the Year Award at Billboard Women in Music Awards

Rosalía is a Spanish megastar well-known within the Latin music industry, but she has advanced in the past few years internationally after her 2018 breakthrough album ‘El Mal Querer’ (which also won a Grammy for best Latin rock or alternative album) and her debut album, Los Ángeles. She burst onto the scene with her unique style, taking inspiration from flamenco and merging it with pop.

Rosalía was honored in 2019 with the Rising Star Award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, becoming the first Spanish artist to receive that honor. Now, she’s accepting the Producer of the Year Award. What a wicked jump and achievement.

The Billboard’s editorial director, Hannah Karp commented “We are thrilled to honor Rosalía with this award and recognize her behind-the-scenes work in the recording studio to bring her vision to fruition. With numerous groundbreaking hits that blur the lines between traditional music genres, Rosalía consistently uses her unique producing abilities to break the mold and deliver the unexpected. There are so many talented producers like Rosalía out there, looking for their big break — we’re excited to provide these women and non-binary creatives with support and a much-needed platform through our new partnership with Bose.”

Rosalía has gain worldwide recognition in recent years, and even more so since many of her songs and dances have become major trends in the TikTok realm.

The 30-year-old Spanish artist won best Latin rock or alternative album earlier this month at the Grammys. The genre-diverse assortment (reggaeton, bolero, bachata, dembrow) also won album of the year at the Latin Grammys. The album hit No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. When talking about the concept for her award-winning album, Rosalía told Billboard: “There is no correct or incorrect in making music; if I thought like that I wouldn’t do anything. I always feel music is about an urge. And [in] MOTOMAMI, there are so many different influences, and I need to feel free to create and I need to create in order to feel free. I make music because that’s my truth.”

Rosalía has also become a force in the touring realm after her recent MOTOMAMI World Tour earned her No. 7 on the 2022 year-end Top Latin Tours chart.

If you don’t know Rosalía, check out her songs as she’s a sick artist and is making waves in the music industry. She’s one to watch out for. I know I’ll be listening out for more news on Rosalía.

Article of The Week 📜

Internet Money takes on Mass Appeal's Rhythm Roulette Challenge

Internet Money's Nick Mira and Rio Leyva take on Mass Appeal’s Rhythm Roulette challenge. They are tasked with creating a beat from records that they had to choose blindly from a local record store.

The duo play the records and finds some samples that they use to start building their track. We watch them create the track, all the while performing the classic producer head bop. The duo are successful in blending together the samples they find with a Trap drum track for the final product.

You’ll want to turn your bass up when listening to their beats at the end of the video. Check it out on Mass Appeal’s YouTube channel. They have a whole series you can check out too. As always, it is wicked to see producers in action displaying the skills of their craft.
